Description: This qualification is aimed at those working in an environment where an AED is available.

The qualification has been mapped to current UK resuscitation council guidelines.

Responding to incidents with an AED

Learners will gain the knowledge and skills and understanding how to use an AED safely, confidently, and competently, this course will also teach how to troubleshoot an AED if it develops a simple fault and how to rectify that fault easily too.

Learners will learn essential lifesaving skills on how to provide safe and effective CPR to a casualty who has stopped breathing and will also learn how to place a casualty into the recovery position to keep the casualty’s airway open and keep them safe till emergency services arrive on the scene.

This course is Ofqual regulated and meets the current requirements of HSE and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Responding to Incidents with an AED course syllabus includes

Have the understanding to able to assess an incident in reference too:

  • Conducting a scene survey
  • Conducting a primary survey of the casualty
  • Summon appropriate assistance.

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • choking

Understand the principles of using and maintaining an AED

  • AED battery changing
  • AED pads changing
  • AED troubleshooting

Course Duration

3 guided learning hours (1/2 day).

Course Tests

Practical observations during your training day and a final multi-choice question paper at the end of your course.

Course Qualification

Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual approved QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED (RQF)

This is valid for 1 year from the date of the course, you will receive an A4 size certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) would be a good step.

First Aid at Work course is also available as an open course option at our training centre in Rugby Warwickshire.

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
