Description: This qualification is for those undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace.
The QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) has been developed in conjunction with other AOs and supports employers to meet their requirements under Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

First aid at work course is an ideal first aid course for medium to a higher risk of injury workplaces such as construction, transport, engineering workshops, factories, large warehouses etc and also ideal if a lower risk of injury workplace such as a large administration office etc but you have a large number of staff members or have a lot of visitors coming to your site.
This course will give you all the necessary skills to be able to manage an unconscious casualty and give them essential lifesaving resuscitation if they have stopped breathing and how to use an AED (Defibrillator) safely, confidently and competently too.
This first aid at work course will also give you the skills and knowledge to safely treat a casualty who has a suspected head, neck, or spinal injury.
You will also learn how best to provide assistance and treatment to a casualty who is choking, or suffering from anaphylactic shock, or having an asthma attack, heart attack, stroke, angina attack or a convulsive seizure.
As well as learning how best to treat burns, scalds, bleeds, broken bones, poisoning, eye injuries, and so much more in this fast-paced 3 day (18 guided learning hours) first aid at work course.
First aid at work course is Ofqual regulated course and is accredited by Qualifications Network and meets all current HSE and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
First aid at Work Course course syllabus includes:
Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:
- Preventing cross-infection
- Importance of recording incidents and actions
- Using available equipment
- Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:
- is unresponsive but breathing normally
- is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
- is wounded and bleeding
- is suffering from medical shock
- is having a heart attack
- is having a stroke
- has bites or stings
- has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
- has chest injury
- has splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising
- has minor burns or scalds
- is having a seizure
- has sudden poisoning
- is suffering from anaphylactic shock
- has diabetes
- has asthma
- is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold
Course Duration:
18 guided learning hours (3 days).
Course Tests:
Practical observations during your training days and a final multi-choice question paper at the end of your course.
Course Qualification:
Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated
QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)
This is valid for 3 years from the date of assessment of the course, you will receive an A4 size certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.
Pre-requisites:
This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.
It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.
Geographical Coverage:
This qualification is available to candidates in England.
The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
