First aid at work course is a very popular first aid course that is mapped for HIGH/MEDIUM risk/hazard workplaces such as engineering, large warehouses, construction, machinery workshops, and many more similar workplaces too.

This first aid at work qualification is OFQUAL regulated and Qualifications Network UK accredited, is mapped to current HSE (first aid) and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines, and is recognised and widely accepted throughout the UK.

First Aid at Work Course

In just 18 hours of guided learning, your learners will have the skills, knowledge, confidence, and competence to be able to give a casualty effective CPR, and use an AED.  Your learners will have the knowledge and skills to be able to treat minor burns, scalds, and wounds, and provide essential treatment to a casualty who is choking, having a seizure, has been poisoned, or is in medical shock.

They will also gain the confidence to provide treatment to a casualty suffering from SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) anaphylactic shock, diabetic shock, asthma attack, drowning, crushing, and so much more in this intensive first aid course.

Your learners will also learn how best to provide treatment and how to safely manage a casualty who has sustained a neck injury, head injury, spinal injury, or has sustained broken bones, dislocation, ligament injury, or soft tissue injury.

First Aid aid at Work course learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration

18 guided learning hours (3 days).

Training days can be split on request.

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions; i.e. students will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and then pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) 

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Each successful delegate will receive;

  • An Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate
  • A certified PDF certificate
  • Plastic debit size card certificate for wallet/purse.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the recommended assessment methods.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED (RQF) would be a good step.

This qualification is available to candidates in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
