Description: This qualification is for those undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace.

The QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) has been developed in conjunction with other AOs and supports employers to meet their requirements under Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981 (NI 1982)

First Aid at Work Course

First Aid at Work course is an ideal first aid course if you work in a high risk of injury workplaces such as engineering workshops, construction sites, factories, machine shops, large warehouses etc.

This is also an ideal first aid course for companies that have a high number of colleagues but a LOW risk of injury workplace such as a large administration building.

You can book separate dates for this course to fit in with your business operations, i.e. day 1 one week and day 2 the following week and day 3 the following week. 

Please let customer service know that you want to split the dates up.

If they have a First Aid at Work certificate that is in date or expired by no more than 30 days then they can sit a 2-day first aid at work requalification course.

This option is also available as an open course at our centre in Rugby Warwickshire.

First Aid at Work Course

First Aid at Work is an 18 guided learning hours course that is typically delivered over 3 days and is an ideal course for the higher risk of injury workplaces.

You will learn those essential lifesaving skills such as how to manage an unconscious casualty who is breathing and who is not breathing how to give lifesaving CPR and how to use an AED safely and confidently, and competently and how to put them safely into the recovery position.

This course will teach you how to safely manage a casualty who has sustained a neck, head, spinal injury, or has sustained broken bones, dislocation, or ligament injury.

Your casualty could be having a convulsive seizure, heart attack, stroke, angina, or sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), so learning all about the signs and symptoms will enable you to treat them quickly and effectively to ensure a good outcome.

On this intensive first aid at work course, you will learn how best to give assistance and give treatment to a casualty if they are suffering from conditions such as diabetes, anaphylaxis, asthma, or they have been poisoned.

This course will also give you the skills and knowledge of how best to treat minor bleeds and wounds, dry burns and wet burns, and so much more on this first aid at work course.

First aid at work course is Ofqual approved qualification and is accredited by Qualifications Network and this first aid at work meets all current HSE and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.

First Aid aid at Work course syllabus includes

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration

18 guided learning hours (3 days).

Course Tests

Practical observations during the 3 training days and a final 45 multi-choice question paper at the end of your first aid course.

Course Qualification

Delegates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and then pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)  This is valid for 3 years from the date of the course.

Each successful delegate will receive an A4 size Ofqual approved certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
