First Aid at Work course is a very popular first aid course that is best suited to HIGH risk of injury or HIGH hazard workplaces such as engineering, construction, factories with machinery, large warehouses, etc.

This first aid qualification is OFQUAL regulated and accredited by QNUK who is one of the larger awarding organisations for health & safety and first aid qualifications in the UK.

This QNUK accredited qualification is nationally recognised and accepted throughout the UK and is mapped to current HSE (first aid) and UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.

First Aid at Work Course

First Aid at Work course will give your learners those essential life-saving skills and knowledge to become a first aider at work in the workplace. Learning how to successfully manage an unconscious casualty who is breathing or who is not breathing. How to give effective lifesaving CPR and use an AED safely, confidently, and competently.

Your learners will also learn how to successfully manage and treat a casualty who may have sustained a minor bleed or wound, or a  minor burn (dry, wet, and chemical) to the body.

Learners will also learn how to successfully manage conditions such as a casualty suffering from an anaphylactic shock, seizures, asthma, heart attacks, angina, SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) strokes, diabetes, severe choking, poisoning, drowning, crushing injuries.

Your learners will also learn how to safely manage a casualty who has sustained a neck injury, head injury, spinal injury, or has sustained broken bones, dislocation, or ligament injury.

First Aid at Work course is also an ideal first aid course for companies that have a high number of colleagues but have a LOW risk of injury workplace such as a large administration building.

First Aid aid at Work course syllabus includes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is having a heart attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has bites or stings
  • has had an electric shock
  • has injuries to eyes, bones, muscles, and joints
  • has chest injury
  • has splinter’s, cuts, grazes, or bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • has diabetes
  • has asthma
  • is suffering the effects of extreme heat or cold

Course Duration

18 guided learning hours (3 days).

Training days can be split up on request. (for example; 1 day one week and 2 days the following week)

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and then pass the final multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)  This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course.

Each successful delegate will receive an A4 size Ofqual approved certificate, PDF certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider. Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the recommended assessment methods.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED (RQF) would be a good step.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
