Description: This qualification provides the knowledge and skills for first aiders working in early years environments.

Learners will gain the knowledge, skills and understanding of emergency paediatric first aid as outlined by the Department of Education, September 2016.

This is a qualification that indicates an individual can undertake a specific role in the workplace and that may be relied upon by employers.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course

OFSTED changed the rules regarding paediatric first aid training in April 2017 for EYFS (Early Year Foundation Stage) settings for workplaces such as nurseries, kindergarten, and primary schools.

This QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) meets all of these new guidelines and this is the course you will need to do if you want to be included in staff : child ratios at your place of work or setting.

Emergency paediatric first aid course is an Ofqual approved qualification and is accredited by Qualifications network and meets all current guidelines laid down by the Department of Education and EYFS.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is an ideal course to complement the Paediatric First Aid members of staff on site.

This gold standard emergency paediatric first aid course will help you learn those essential lifesaving skills such as how to successfully manage an unconscious casualty who is breathing or not breathing and how to give lifesaving CPR if they have stopped breathing and also how to use an AED safely, confidently, and competently in a first aid emergency.

On this Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, you will learn how best to assist and treat a casualty who has started choking or has gone into shock or having a seizure.

You will also learn how to give assistance and treatment to a casualty who may have a bleed, minor wound, minor burn, or a scald, this Emergency Paediatric First Aid course will give you all the essential skills and knowledge to become a first aider in the paediatric workplace.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid course syllabus includes

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency Paediatric First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to provide first aid for an Infant or Child who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • is suffering from bites, stings, and minor injuries (splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising)

Course Duration

6 guided learning hours (1day).

Course Tests

Practical and visual observations during your training days and a final 15 multi-choice question paper at the end of your course.

Course Qualification

Candidates who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual approved QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the date of the course, you will receive an A4 size certificate and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.

Course Pre-requisites

It is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

This qualification is for those over 16 years of age. Candidates should be physically capable of providing first aid, such as CPR to a casualty on the floor.

Geographical Coverage

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
