The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is the choice of many employers to ensure they are meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

The QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is ideal for those employers that need to meet the minimum requirements of first aid regulations; typically those working in shops, offices, and other LOW risk working environments.

Emergency First Aid at Work course is a very popular first aid course for most businesses that are LOW risk of injury / LOW hazard workplaces, such as administration offices, small warehouses, car repair garages, cafes, fitness centres, and many more workplaces too.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work course is OFQUAL regulated and Qualifications Network accredited and is nationally recognised and accepted throughout the UK.

This first aid course meets all current national industry guidelines.

In just 1 day (6 guided learning hours) learners will learn all those essential skills, knowledge, confidence, and competence required to become an emergency first aider in the workplace and can be counted upon by their employer to act as an emergency first aider in an emergency first aid situation.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Emergency First Aid at Work course will give learners those essential life-saving skills and knowledge to be an emergency first aider in the workplace.

Learning how to successfully manage an unconscious casualty who is breathing or who is not breathing.

How to give lifesaving CPR and use an AED safely, confidently, and competently.

Emergency first aiders will learn how to successfully manage a casualty who has a minor bleed, burn, or scald.

Also gaining the knowledge and skills to help a casualty who may be suffering from a severe choke, medical shock, or having a seizure.

Emergency First Aid at Work course syllabus includes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • has splinters,
  • has cuts, grazes, and bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure

Course Duration

6 guided learning hours (1day).

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (11 out of 15)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

Course Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

This is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course, each learner will receive an A4 size certificate, a PDF copy of the certificate, and also a wallet/purse size plastic qualification card.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider.

Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

For learners who are looking at progressing further in first aid then QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) would be a good step.

Emergency First Aid at Work is also available as an open course at our Rugby training centre too.

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
