This qualification is aimed at those looking to undertake the role of the first aider in sports activities. The qualification also meets the requirements for a workplace emergency first aider as outlined in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

Activity First Aid Course

Activity first aid course is a very popular 2-day course with those who are involved with sports such as sports or athletic coaches, leisure centre staff, ramblers, and outdoor activities.

Day 1

The first aid skills learned on day 1 are based upon Emergency First Aid at Work course which includes how to give a casualty effective CPR if they have stopped breathing, and how to use an AED (defibrillator) safely and competently.

Also, our learners will learn about how best to provide treatment for minor wounds, minor burns,  and scalds, also learning as to provide effective treatment for a casualty who may be choking, having a seizure, or are in medical shock.

Day 2

On day 2 our learners will gain the knowledge and skills on how best to treat minor sporting injuries and conditions such as sprains and strains, minor fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, chest injuries, effects from hot & cold temperature changes, anaphylaxis, heart attacks, strokes, asthma, diabetes, poisoning, and bites and stings too.

All of our First Aid Training courses are fully approved by Qualifications Network UK, meaning that as an employer you are completely covered under the HSE (first aid) regulations to protect and keep your employees safe within the workplace, giving you complete peace of mind that our first aid training meets the national industry standards.

Activity First Aid course learning outcomes;

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Activity First Aider in reference to:

  • Preventing cross-infection
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Using available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency

Be able to administer and provide first aid to a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive but breathing normally
  • is unresponsive but NOT breathing normally
  • is choking
  • has external bleeding
  • is suffering from medical shock
  • has splinters,
  • has cuts, grazes, and bruising
  • has minor burns or scalds
  • is having a seizure
  • is having a heart attack or angina attack
  • is having a stroke
  • has injuries to the head, neck, or back
  • is suffering from bites, stings, and minor injuries (splinters, cuts, grazes, or bruising)
  • has suspected fracture
  • has a foreign body in the eyes, ear, or nose
  • is having a seizure
  • has sudden poisoning
  • is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • is having a  diabetic episode
  • is having an asthma
  • is having an allergic reaction

Course Duration

12 guided learning hours (2 days)

Course Tests

Multiple Choice Question Paper.

  • 70% required to pass this part of the course (28 out of 40)

Practical Observations.

  • For this qualification, learners must be able to perform relevant practical tasks on the floor during the summative assessment. 100% pass mark required.

The assessment will take place under examination conditions; i.e. Learners will sit at least 1.25 metres apart and will not be allowed to confer during the examination. No books, including dictionaries, will be permitted during the examination.

Couse Qualification

Learners who successfully pass all the practical elements of the course and pass the final  multi-choice paper will be awarded an Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Activity First Aid at Work (RQF)

This qualification is valid for 3 years from the assessment date of the course, each student will receive;

  • Ofqual regulated QNUK Level 3 Award in Activity First Aid (RQF)
  • A certified PDF copy of the certificate
  • Plastic debit card size qualification card for wallet or purse.

Course Pre-requisites

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being a workplace emergency first aider.

Candidates between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

It is recommended that candidates have a minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate first aid procedures as they would in a real work environment.

This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore being physically capable of doing so.

Course Progression

Students undertaking this qualification may wish to progress to the QNUK Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF), or for those working in outdoor activities, the QNUK Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid (RQF)

This qualification is available to candidates in England.

The Qualification can be delivered in other countries however candidates should be aware that the content was developed in accordance with current UK practice.
